What We Support
-
Tell the story. Reach the right people.
Good work does not automatically get noticed.Oileán helps island organisations and communities turn their work, ideas and experiences into clear stories that can reach policymakers, partners, funders, media and the wider public.
We can support individual pieces of communications work or act as a communications partner around a larger project, campaign or event.
We can support you with:
Communications strategy
Social media content
Photography and video
Short documentary production
Interviews and community storytelling
Press releases and media outreach
Media relations
Event communications
Speaker and interview preparation
Messaging and narrative development
Content from international conferences and events
Our approach is particularly suited to organisations that are doing strong work locally but do not have a dedicated communications team or need additional capacity around a major project or moment.
-
Make international spaces useful.
International conferences can create opportunities for partnerships, funding, visibility and policy influence, but they can also be difficult environments to navigate.
Oileán supports organisations and representatives before, during and after major international events.
Our experience includes engagement across UN climate, ocean and biodiversity processes as well as international forums and Climate Weeks.

-
Create space for better conversations.
Oileán designs and facilitates workshops for governments, organisations, young people and communities working on climate issues.
Rather than relying heavily on presentations, we design sessions around participation, discussion and practical problem-solving.
Sessions can be developed specifically around an organisation's needs or adapted from existing Oileán workshop formats.
Areas we can support include:
Island development
Climate and development finance
Biodiversity finance
Policy development
Futures and scenario planning
International engagement
Communications and storytelling
Youth participation
Stakeholder engagement
Development Finance Workshop
An interactive workshop exploring how public and private finance moves between communities, governments and investors.
Participants work through a facilitated simulation involving real-world trade-offs, negotiations and funding decisions.
The workshop is designed to make a complicated subject understandable and practical.
Policy & Impact Design
A facilitated process helping organisations move from an idea or challenge towards a clearer plan.
Participants identify the problem they are addressing, the people involved, possible interventions and the steps required to move from discussion to implementation.
Tell us what you are trying to achieve and we can develop the session around it.

-
Document what is happening on islands.
Some of the most important knowledge about islands exists within communities rather than reports.
Oileán works to document those experiences and connect them with wider conversations about climate, biodiversity, development and the future of island communities.
We can develop:
Interviews
Articles and profiles
Community stories
Photography
Short films
Documentary content
Event reports
Case studies
Policy-facing publications
Digital campaigns
This work can stand alone or form part of a larger research, communications or engagement project.
Where possible, we work directly with people within island communities and prioritise their own experiences, perspectives and words.
